Residents, non-residents, and businesses have purchased houses within South Portland residential neighborhoods. These houses are non-owner occupied and are rented out as mini hotels, for one purpose and one purpose only: to make money. There is certainly nothing wrong with making money, but when the need to make excessive amounts of money has a definitive negative impact on the fabric of a neighborhood, then that is defined as greed. In the movie “Wall Street,” Gordon Gecko famously said “greed is good.” Sorry Gordon, you were wrong then, and you’re wrong now.
