I am urging the citizens of Scarborough to get to Town Hall and vote on the referendum to either keep or overturn the new dog ordinance enacted by the Town Council Oct. 2. This law requires dogs to be leashed at all times on all town-owned property.

This law was enacted without due process. A body of seven elected public servants should not be able to make a law that so negatively impacts the quality of life for so many citizens without said citizens’ input.

A Scarborough voter may not care about this law if he or she doesn’t own a dog, doesn’t use the beach, always keeps their dog on a leash or keeps their dog at home. That is OK, but the next law enacted by the council in seconds and without careful consideration may be the law that negatively impacts you.

Get out and vote, for or against the new ordinance, and let the council know that the citizens of Scarborough are interested in how they are governed.
