Maine Speaker of the House Sara Gideon, D-Freeport, and Sen. Everett “Brownie” Carson, D-Harpswell, are outstanding leaders who have represented Freeport, where I live, well. My focus is on the environment, where they have proved themselves as champions.

Gideon sponsored groundbreaking legislation to lessen our dependence on fossil fuel and expand solar power by pulling together stakeholders that included solar producers and advocates, Central Maine Power, the Public Advocate, and municipalities. (Unfortunately, the governor vetoed that legislation and it failed).

Carson sponsored legislation to protect our water from metallic mineral mining, which succeeded. Maine now arguably has the strongest regulations for mineral mining anywhere in the country.

If re-elected, I have no doubt Gideon and Carson will continue working to make Freeport and all of Maine a better place to live, work and grow. They deserve our votes on Nov. 6.
