I recently read the article about the state Senate candidate forum held in Cumberland for the candidates in the District 25 race: Sen. Cathy Breen, D-Falmouth, and Republican Cathy Nichols. The district includes Yarmouth, Cumberland, Gray, Falmouth, Chebeague and Long Island, plus part of Westbrook.

I believe there was a very misleading sentence related to the funding of the campaigns. It said “Breen is a Maine Clean Election candidate and has raised more than $45,000.” This is very misleading since the $45,000 collected by Breen is from our taxes, supplied through the Clean Election Fund. The remaining money raised is from the $5 checks from the voters.

Nichols has not received support from the Clean Election Fund, but has truly raised her campaign money from the checks from those who support her candidacy.
