If you ever wanted to show your support for your neighbors, now is the time to do so.

Fuel for Friends is a fuel assistance program serving Arrowsic, Bath, Georgetown, Phippsburg, West Bath, and Woolwich, managed by Midcoast Maine Community Action Program. They work in collaboration with the towns, Regional School Unit 1, and local churches and organizations. They have recently received a donation from the United Way and receive LIHEAP money to distribute. But funds are very short this winter and the need is very great.

There are stories of folks keeping their thermostats at 40 degrees, just so their pipes do not freeze and entire households sleeping in one room.

If the area does receive more LIHEAP monies, the need will still certainly be there. I know there is an abundance of needs in our community and society. And, there are a number of working folks, elderly and children who would greatly benefit from your generosity.

Donations can be made to MMCA, 34 Wing Farm Parkway, Bath, Maine 04530, notation “Fuel for Friends,” or to their website at mainecoastcommunityaction.org. Information to find out about available fuel assistance or the program can be obtained by telephoning 442-7963. The United Way is also making available a 2-1-1 number to call if people need emergency fuel assistance.
