To keep schools relevant we must evaluate their operational structures. We are seeing unprecedented changes in education. The rapid pace of technological growth makes it possible for students all over the world to connect with learning in whole new ways. Advanced middle school students take high school classes online without having to be in a high school environment. Service learning projects are in hometowns or connected across the globe. Changes are not only technological. Some colleges no longer accept AP credits. Some no longer require SATs. Freeport needs to be agile to this type of change. We need to understand our identity and not grow our schools beyond our means. We need flexibility in governing our schools. The Regional School Unit model appeared to offer savings, but is proving inflexible and constraining. It is time to release the Falcon so it can soar to new heights. Vote yes on withdrawal from RSU 5.
