Last December, Freeport voters chose to explore withdrawal from Regional School Unit 5. Over the ensuing year, there’s been intense public debate on the next best step. Much of the discourse has been centered on financing. Although funding our schools is important, it’s equally important to talk about what we want to become.

A move to local governance gives Freeport the opportunity to re-vision our district. Before we vote, it’s a great time to ask ourselves: How do we want to prepare all of our children for a 21st-century economy? If we vote yes, we can decide as a community how best to prepare for what lies ahead. If we remain in the RSU, we will continue to lose students and families to districts that have a clear vision ahead. Please join me in voting yes for Freeport.
