On March 19, the Freeport High School junior class held its first Pizza Madness Tournament to raise funds for Project Graduation, a series of fun, safe activities held immediately before and after commencement. Because of timing, we tied our event into NCAA March Madness, with a basketball theme. Crusher, the Maine Red Claws basketball team mascot, was our special guest and everyone in attendance appeared to have a great time. We hope the success of this year’s event has set the stage for another tournament next year.

We want to thank the “Elite Eight” pizzerias that accepted our invitation. We asked you to donate your best pizzas and you gave us crowd-pleasing quality, flavor and variety. With your help we raised over $1,000. Congratulations to the “Final Four” winners and also to the team that won the “People’s Choice” for Best Overall Pizza, based on voting by the fans.

We were fortunate to have five enthusiastic and hungry “referees” who ate their way through many slices of pizza. To these judges, thank you for your perseverance in making difficult choices among worthy contenders.

To our event sponsors and to all who helped stage the fundraiser, a huge thank you. To all who came to eat and vote, we sincerely hope you had fun and ate well. Thank you from the Freeport High School Class of 2012.
