I’d like to dispel the myth that a stand-alone Freeport school system will be bad for our athletic program. As a parent of a former three-season Falcon, I can assure you that Freeport High School had athletic successes prior to consolidation. The maroon banners hanging in the gymnasium are proof enough.

Freeport was without a football program 10 years ago. A group of passionate parents started the Gridiron Club and funded it privately. These parents, coaches and players persevered, shared turf with Brunswick, and did anything necessary to get a football club established here in Freeport.

The Pownal Road Soccer Field was adapted for football and the Gridiron Club built the concession stand. The club was given official status before Regional School Unit 5 was formed. Freeporters have a long history of making positive things happen.

Please vote yes to withdraw, so Freeport taxpayers can negotiate with each other and not our neighbors.
