After reading that the School Administrative District 51 Board of Directors recently decided to hire new staff with the help of some savings from a drop in health-care costs, and finding out that my taxes were only going up $250, I said, “Wow, I am only going to take about a $500 pay cut this year after the municipal budget gets figured into things.”
I work at the University of Southern Maine and we are laying people off to make ends meet. It is doubtful I will see a big increase in pay, but SAD 51 can reach right into our pockets and give themselves a boost if needed.
The town is is very skilled at taking our change as well, giving developers deals and leaving us to pay for the beach.
Does anyone feel the pain?
