With the departure of George Entwistle as Falmouth’s superintendent of schools and the appointment of Barbara Powers as interim superintendent, the Falmouth School Board now turns to the search for a new school superintendent. Board members Linda Cote, Karen Farber and Mark Terison are leading the effort.

Citizen participation in the search is critical to finding the right person to lead our schools. A public forum about the search is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m. at the Falmouth Memorial Library. This will be a time for Falmouth citizens to voice their opinions on three important matters:

1) The strengths of our school district (what folks are most proud of and wish preserved).

2) The challenges and issues the school district faces, both in the short term and the long run.

3) The particular qualities and characteristics needed in a successful superintendent.

It’s not every day that we have the opportunity to take the measure of our school system, to reflect upon its strengths and challenges, and to choose the leader who will shape the future of education in Falmouth. Selecting the new superintendent of schools is likely the most important decision this School Board will ever make. Please consider this an opportunity to make your voice heard, and to let the board know what kind of person you would like to see become school superintendent.

For those who cannot attend the forum, an online survey will be available afterwards at www.falmouthschools.org.
