I want to let you know how impressed I was with Peggy Roberts’ article about Art Frederiksen in the July 9 edition. A friend and I spent 10 days at the Falmouth American Legion hall learning how to make bamboo fly rods. Our visit was more than just a technical venture due to Art’s presence. He had coffee ready when we got there at 7am and was a constant supporter of our efforts to complete our rods in the time permitted. Our instructors told us how much work Art had done in making that small facility into something the community could take pride in.

Upon returning to our homes in Washington we received a nice note from Art that reflected our combined interest in the task we accomplished. Soon after, we received copies of photographs Art took of us during the class.
They were sent from our newest friend and a great ambassador for your community.

Although there will be few opportunities for us to visit Falmouth again, I will always mention it and its first citizen to anyone going that way. I am certain that Art would extend a helping hand to anyone with questions or problems who might find themselves in your fine town. He is a real asset to the Legion and the community and will be difficult to replace when the time comes.
