On Feb. 8, The Forecaster quoted Jonathan Berry, now a Falmouth Town Council candidate, at the Feb. 7 School Board workshop, where he spoke in support of higher taxes: “‘Falmouth has let kids down when it comes to kindergarten,’ said Jonathan Berry, a father of two elementary-age boys. ‘I would support a mil rate increase. It comes down to a couple of lattes or rounds of golf. It’s well worth it.'”
Regardless of whether you support the tax increase, this comment is so insensitive and the candidate for Town Council must be so disconnected from the real world. A resident with a lien on their home or someone who has lost their job might be looking at more of a sacrifice than Mr. Berry’s latte or round of golf. Falmouth deserves better.
