The March 21 article regarding the Falmouth Long-Range Planning Advisory Committee only scratches the surface of integrity problems with the Town Council.

During the contentious contract zone debate in 2017, the council looked the other way when residents raised concerns that Councilor Andrea Ferrante’s company was the developer requesting the contact zone, a flagrant conflict of interest. Additionally, as stated in the article, Ferrante is chairwoman of the Appointments Committee, and therefore has enormous influence over who serves on committees that make crucial decisions regarding zoning and land use. These committees include LPAC, the Planning Board (which reviews development proposals for subdivisions, private ways, and commercial site plans), the Board of Zoning Appeals (which hears applications for conditional uses, like contract zones), and the Route 100 Committee (which Ferrante chairs and is recommending improvements to a section of road that abuts her property).

It’s time for residents to be aware of how elected councilors potentially use their positions for personal gain instead of to better the town as a whole and it’s time for the council to listen to residents’ concerns and begin to restore credibility to our elected governing body.
