Falmouth Question 1 at the June 14 election is about much-needed road improvements to Route 100 in West Falmouth. This section of road is in terrible shape and will only get worse if we do nothing. This project will not increase the property tax rate. The project is funded through a combination of existing funds, new state funds, and bonds paid for with future tax revenues from an existing West Falmouth tax increment financing district. Future TIF tax revenues from this part of town, at current tax rates, are expected to be more than sufficient to pay for the bonds the voters are being asked to approve. During my time on the Town Council, I have been as cautious as anyone about spending. But maintaining our roads and physical infrastructure is among the most central of municipal functions. I urge all Falmouth residents to vote yes on Question 1.
