I was shocked to read that Falmouth is planning to spray trees in late May. I do not believe that residents were given enough public notice to speak up against this. It is well known that chemical spraying is dangerous for human health, and for the environment and animals on many levels. I believe that the town could find an alternative solution to this problem.
I understand that browntail moth caterpillars create an unpleasant rash, but there are better ways to manage the issue. A fungal, organic insecticide that does not contain chemicals is an easy alternative.
It is disturbing that Falmouth residents, like my family with two young children, will be affected by these sprayings without our consent. I hope that town officials will consider human health before moving forward with these applications.
