The board of trustees of Falmouth Memorial Library would like to thank the Town Council for voting to put a bond referendum to meet unexpected costs in the library expansion project on the November ballot. We were shocked to find out that construction costs had recently escalated dramatically on our project and across the state. The architects worked to identify $1.2 million in cost savings that did not compromise programming or the energy efficiency. To maintain the integrity of the design the community wholeheartedly supported, we are still facing a $1 million deficit. The bond will be for up to $500,000 and the library will match this amount via private fundraising and further efforts to reduce costs on the project. I hope you will join me in voting yes Nov. 6 to ensure the library remains a critical and well-loved cornerstone of our community.
