We’ve been members and supporters of the Falmouth Memorial Library for nearly 20 years. It’s an essential pillar within the community, and it must be first class to meet community needs. Renovations and expansion are needed, but how much and at what costs?

In 2014, plans were developed and voters approved a bond issuance of $2,810,000 contingent on FML raising an equal amount by end of 2016 to cover estimated costs.

Also, a memorandum of understanding between the town and the FML stated that “in no event” will the town’s responsibility exceed $2,810,000.

Now taxpayers are being asked to contribute up to another $500,000. Our tax rates have risen 23 percent since FY13 and it’s time for fiscal responsibility. FML can build an excellent first-class library with the $5,620,000 it has secured. Please vote no on Question 1.
