I’ve got a new hero: Cole Walsh. He’s the Falmouth High School senior that the The Forecaster featured last week (“Class of 2015: Falmouth senior learns to cope with depression”). He’s not only successfully dealing with depression, but he’s also reaching out to others to let them know “it’s OK to not be OK.”

When I was Cole’s age, the word “cancer” was always whispered. Fortunately, we’ve changed our attitude and now openly support friends battling cancer. Thanks to Cole and other brave leaders, it looks like we’re now on our way to start talking openly about mental illness, too. Cole’s taking lemons and making lemonade.

I admire his courage and desire to help others by sharing his own experience publicly. And I thank The Forecaster for running the story.
