Well there you have it. Based on a survey of 270 Falmouth residents at the polls (I voted early and missed it) it seems the powers at Town Hall have divined the will of the people and seem ready to move ahead on the latest eco-adventure: a ban on single-use plastic shopping bags. I’m not much of a statistician, but even I know that results from a sample that small, maybe 2 percent of residents, are meaningless, and participation was likely heavily comprised of those already persuaded of the benefits of such a ban, however dubious. I encourage the council to move with care on this issue, making sure all important issues are considered. For example, why on earth do we need an “energy and sustainability coordinator”? Or, the more critical question, how does one pick up dog poop with a paper grocery bag?
