My thanks for a terrific article by Walter Wuthmann about Muslims in Maine. It was superb, in-depth reporting on an important topic and it really opened my eyes. It also got me re-examining my own behavior towards others.
I know that when I have traveled in Muslim-majority countries, I have always been treated very well. Until this article, I had no idea how badly some American Muslims have been treated. Frankly, I’m embarrassed.
I generally try to be kind and respectful to others, but given how poorly some Muslim Mainers are being treated, I’m going to go out of my way to be extra nice to and supportive of our new immigrants. If I had to seek refuge in another country, I hope residents there would do the same for me.
I appreciate Wuthmann opening my eyes to this issue.
