Cancer will kill an estimated 3,360 people in Maine this year. Maine policymakers have the power to guarantee access to adequate and affordable health care coverage, fund critical cancer research and screening programs and pass policies to reduce the burden of tobacco in Maine.
Every day, our elected officials make decisions that affect cancer patients and their families. Throughout the election season, volunteers for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network like me educate the public and candidates about cancer issues and the candidates’ positions on those issues.
As a daughter who lost her mom to breast cancer and an oncology social worker, I am asking everyone to visit CancerVotes.org to learn where our candidates for Maine’s next governor stand on public policy issues that will help make cancer history.
We plan to hold the winners, whoever they are, accountable for their commitments to fight cancer.
