Yarmouth Town Council candidates for whom I have voted had many different types of jobs or careers. I can’t remember being concerned about a candidate’s employment.

This year I am very concerned. One candidate, Meghan Casey, is a Yarmouth teacher. I believe that’s a conflict, especially now.

The School Department is proposing a $36 million expansion project that would significantly raise taxes. But, before the public votes, the council must recommend the proposed bond amount. Our council must be impartial. They can insist the School Department reduce the cost.

I would rather not have a teacher/councilor weighing in on this huge school bond, or for that matter, on the annual school budget review. And, would one teacher on the council encourage another to run?
