As a former Scarborough town councilor, I always understood that, when elected, you have a responsibility to represent an entire community. Many try to steer clear of writing endorsements in political party primary races, but the June Democratic primary for Cumberland County sheriff requires attention. True leadership lies in guiding others to success and in ensuring that everyone is doing the work they are pledged to do and performing at their best. Responsibility for the Cumberland County Jail’s maximum security breaches (2010, 2012, and 2014), all since the current sheriff’s first election, must start at the top and a change in leadership must be made. Cumberland Town Councilor Mike Edes is a retired, 23-year Maine State Police sergeant, who started his career in Scarborough. The recent endorsement of Mike by the county’s patrol officers and detectives union speaks to that very leadership. Please join me in voting for Mike on June 10.
