I encourage the Falmouth Town Council to take some time as it decides how to use the expected proceeds from the sale of the Plummer and Lunt school complex to Ocean View.

I agree with many of the counselors that placing the funds in a reserve account for a year or two will allow Falmouth the time needed to give thoughtful consideration its use. It is a rare opportunity that we can realize an estimated $2 million net gain and we should not rush to place it in the general fund to be spent on operating costs nor yet commit the funds to a specific purpose.

The council and town staff have spent countless hours evaluating proposals for the site and negotiating the result. All deserve our thanks for their thoughtful consideration and deliberation on our behalf. Let’s allow the dust to settle on the sale to Ocean View before we commit the net proceeds to a specific purpose.
