I would like to let the people of Cumberland know that I have been to hundreds of municipal meetings in my career, but rarely have I been to one as thoughtful as the public hearing on Monday, Oct. 6, on the proposal for oceanfront and forest access that my company has in front of the town. To see so much civic pride on display was nothing short of invigorating.
Regardless of the outcome of Question 1, one thing I know is that Cumberland voters will have made a very informed decision. Based on what I saw Monday night, Cumberland is almost unique because of its extremely high level of political discussion. Everyone who spoke was remarkably informed, and more important, very respectful of all points of view. It was my privilege to attend, and I have no doubt residents will make the wiser decision on Nov. 4, whatever that may be.
