I want to thank the voters of House District 45 for giving me the confidence to be their voice in Augusta. My job now will be to represent those who voted for me and those who voted for my opponent. I promise that I will do my very best to represent you in a way that reflects the decency, intelligence and courage of our community.
The challenges Maine faces are both serious and urgent, and none of them benefits from partisan gamesmanship. We need to figure out how to build a vibrant economy without risking our clean air, water and soil. We need to address the needs of seniors, both for property tax relief and for affordable housing. We need to offer a level of job skills and intellectual capital that will attract and retain employers to do business in our state and enable our young people to build lives right here in Maine. We need to address the state’s tax and revenue structure to make sure we’re motivating the behaviors that will sustain growth. And we need to do all these things at once.
I don’t pretend to have all the answers. But I will listen to and work with anyone who is seriously committed to a brighter future for all of us. I want to actively solicit the voters’ ideas on how we can solve our critical challenges. If we all put our heads together with open minds, I’m convinced that we can make steady progress.
