The Cumberland Wood Bank, in existence for eight years, always had enough wood to meet demand. This year was challenging. We needed over 40 cords of wood to meet demand, and there was little to be found. We notified the local community through social media, The Forecaster, and email. People heard the call and offered us their downed trees, logs, and firewood. In six months we collected, processed, and delivered over 60 cords of wood, which is about 25 percent more than last year’s record volume. This resulted in over $15,000 in local fuel assistance. It happened due to a highly dedicated and growing group of volunteers and donors from Cumberland and the surrounding communities who stepped up to the challenge. To each person who gave their time, wood, money, food, equipment, and other support, thank you.
