Local businesses will suffer if Cumberland’s contract zone Question 2, the proposed connection of Harris Road and Route 9 in support of the Town’s Comprehensive Plan, passes in November. Diverting traffic to Harris Road will not only endanger local student athletes and residents who seek the safety of Harris Road for sports training and recreation, it will systematically redirect traffic away from the business center of Cumberland.
In recent years we have seen the addition of Doc’s Cafe, Louie’s Grille and Atlantic Regional Federal Credit Union to Main Street, along with the well-established Food Stop. Intentionally diverting traffic from the thriving commercial downtown is a blatant contradiction to posted signs proclaiming Cumberland is business-friendly.
Please consider the unfortunate fallout that will occur if Question 2 passes. Vote no on Question 2.
