Many thanks to the Cumberland community for participating in the democratic process and signing the recent petition that will allow our community to vote on the contract zone impacting Harris Road. Our quiet residential road that serves bikers, walkers, dogs, runners, skaters, skiers, kids and baby-strollers deserves an informed community vote in November.
As I dreaded heading out for another tiring night of signature-collecting before deadline day, I was re-energized when a car sped dangerously fast by me, without pause, while I collected my mail. I couldn’t let this now-seldom occurrence become the future norm of Harris Road, which I fear will happen if the contract zone goes forward and the connection to Route 9 is constructed. Our road is straight with blind hills and no sidewalks (or promise thereof).
While this was a daunting task, I would not trade the increased sense of community with my Harris Road and Cumberland neighbors. Petitioning is not for the faint of heart, but it can make the heart grow stronger. Thank you, Cumberland neighbors, for letting us knock on your doors.
