In a letter to the editor on May 12, Susan Dench claims Falmouth Town Councilor Chris Orestis has “overseen” a tax hike of 9.3 percent over the last two years. This is exactly the kind of negative politics and distortions of the truth that turn off young voters like me.
No one councilor can single-handedly raise taxes. It is a seven-member Town Council and there are also seven members of the School Board. Any tax increases have been a result of making up for the loss of state funding for the schools which were approved by both the Town Council and School Board.
On top of that, the voters approve the school budget every year, just as I plan on voting in favor of the school budget this year.
