One of the reasons I’m supporting state Rep. Janice Cooper, D-Yarmouth, for re-election in House District 47 is her incredible work ethic. I’ve had occasion to watch her work in Augusta. I’ve seen her work hard, dig into legislation, avoid the limelight, and focus instead on delivering results.

Her recent victory in helping secure “conformity” of state and federal tax codes is one example. Working long hours on the Tax Committee – across the aisle – she helped craft legislation that raised deductions, lowered taxes for most Mainers, incentivized workplace child care, and fixed problems created by recent federal tax changes. This was unglamorous but vitally important work. Likewise, she’s been steadily pushing for greater “revenue sharing” of state monies for municipalities and education. This, too, is unglamorous but vitally important.

I’m enthusiastically supporting Janice because I appreciate this kind of tenacity, knowledge, work ethic, and dogged commitment to the interests of Yarmouth, Long Island, and Chebeague.
