I met state Rep. Michael Timmons, R-Cumberland, just a few days before the Legislature voted on overriding Gov. Paul LePage’s many vetoes. I asked him why he had voted against LD 1547, which would make Narcan available for drug overdoses. He said he had voted for the bill, but I told him that he was on record as having voted against it. After an awkward pause, he said someone introduced an amendment at the last minute, causing him to change his vote. He promised he would vote to override the veto of LD 1547 when it came up again. I sent him a thank you email and he never responded.

I subsequently went online and saw that Timmons did not vote to sustain the veto, contrary to his promise. We deserve better from our elected leaders.
