I’m glad that U.S. Sen. Susan Collins is a moderate Republican, but her ties with the Republican establishment are preventing her from adequately representing us. Most of us believe that we have the right to know who contributes large amounts to political campaign ads. In fact, a majority of our senators believe we have that right, and one introduced a bill that required the disclosure of the names of organizations contributing more than $10,000. Sen. Collins joined a Republican filibuster to block that bill. The press paints a political landscape in which Sen. Collins appears to be for moderation. Yet a photo of her voting record shows that she is often not voting for what most of us most need.
