I’ve been very frustrated with the voting record of state Rep. Kim Olsen of House District 64 when it comes to issues important to Maine women. Since she took office, Olsen has taken us backwards. She voted for LD 1746, cutting funds to Head Start for essential child care and pre-school education for children whose moms must work. Her vote for LD 1746 also cut support for prescription drugs for the elderly. She co-sponsored two bills that would limit a woman’s right to choose. With her vote in favor of LD 1043, Olsen voted for huge tax cuts for the wealthiest 20 percent of Mainers, depriving middle-class Mainers of funds that would support public schools, roads and parks.
Olsen is a very nice person by all accounts, but her record demonstrates that she is not a true champion of our rights and interests. On Nov. 6, I’ll be voting for Jeremy Saxton.
