The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King wrote “when we are met by physical force we must respond with soul force.”

Just where does an American look to models of this higher plane of consciousness? The U.S. is the largest arms dealer in the world. We have the biggest navy in the world, we have more nuclear weapons in our arsenal that any other nation. We are not a country that believes in soul power in general.

One step toward a world without war I believe would be the conversion of Bath Iron Works from a company that builds more destroyers to a company that takes its ingenuity and wonderful work force and leads us into the concrete reality of supporting this country by building wind and solar power, and possibly rail.

Back to MLK: “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up, live out the true meaning of its creed.” We all have to act out this dream of King’s into reality, and I believe the conversion of BIW can be a big step right here in Maine of evolving into a country where peace is not a dream, but a world reality. It has to start with all of us.
