To the socially challenged individual(s?) who broke into the Brunswick Elks Lodge on the morning of Oct. 31:

While the overall violation is disturbing and having to make repairs to the building is frustrating to have to deal with, it is most important that you, and the general public, know what you have taken and who is affected. All of the money you stole has been collected through the generous and heartfelt donations of our members and guests and was specifically earmarked for three important programs.

They are a donation to the Maine Children’s Cancer Program for research and comfort items; our sponsorship of the annual Elks Children’s Christmas Party for crafts and gifts; and for the Elks contribution to U.S. military veterans at the Togus VA Hospital, who served this country so you would have the freedom to roam around in the wee hours of the morning to damage property and steal from others.

It is discouraging and highly disappointing that we will now not be able to provide support for these programs at the levels we might have otherwise offered. You should be proud.
