A thank you to Brunswick’s legislative delegation for voting to override Gov. Paul LePage’s veto of the solar bill that would have allowed Maine to reap the benefits of solar energy and hundreds of well-paying jobs. The veto override failed by just a few votes. Five Republicans who had committed to passing the bill “took a walk” at the last minute, shutting themselves in a closet rather than standing up for Maine jobs and energy independence. They should be ashamed and we should be alarmed.

Despite great leadership from the Natural Resources Council of Maine to promote the facts about the bill, the Republican House leader continued to misrepresent them on the House floor.

We can be proud that Reps. Mattie Daughtry, Jay McCreight, and Ralph Tucker all voted twice to override the governor’s veto of a bill that had been negotiated and accepted by both parties, big energy companies, business groups, environmental groups, etc. It was a win-win-win bill that ultimately lost.

If you are willing to take action to help you can join the Natural Resources Council of Maine, thank our Brunswick legislators for their hard work, and vote in November for candidates committed to renewable energy across the country.
