Victoria Morales, the Democratic socialist candidate in House District 33, will be occupying the seat essentially unopposed. South Portland Republicans were not able to identify a candidate to challenge the Democrats. Victoria’s political philosophy is exactly the same as Democratic candidate for Congress Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of the Bronx in New York: Medicare for everyone, more “investment” in schools, and the advancement of social, economic, racial and environmental social justice.
The Republicans may be feeling the sting of supporting state Rep. Kevin Battle, who was elected on the Republican ticket, changed to an independent while in office, and now supports the Democrat socialist movement.
I must blame the Republicans for not providing an alternative to the Democrat socialist movement of big government, tax-and-spend policy and free handouts for all with more entitlements.
