I found it ironic that you chose a photo of two people riding bicycles without bike helmets to illustrate a special advertising section in the June 27 edition of The Forecaster about healthy living for seniors.

The photo cutline says, “There’s a correlation between activity and a lower death rate in older adults.” That may be, but there also is a much greater risk of serious injury when one rides a bike without a helmet.

It doesn’t matter how fast you ride or whether you stick to trails. Anyone who rides a bicycle should wear a helmet as protection against head injuries.
