The Yarmouth School Department has been beyond lucky to be led by Ron Barker as intern superintendent for the past few months. It should be acknowledged that Barker graciously stepped up to fill big shoes in Yarmouth at a very difficult time. He has dealt with controversial issues, such as the school budget and security, by respectfully listening and understanding various perspectives on the topics before acting in the way he thinks will most benefit and protect Yarmouth’s esteemed schools.

What has struck me the most about Barker is his genuine interest in the lives of Yarmouth students. Between his excitement towards educational presentations at School Committee meetings and his presence at various school events, it is clear he has a passion for education and the success of students. Often students feel distant from administrators, but Barker has done an incredible job closing that gap.

Even when School Committee meetings go longer than expected, Barker has smile on his face and a steady stream of enthusiasm that brings energy to those around him. Personally, I am inspired constantly by his actions to take a greater interest in my community.

Barker has become a familiar face around the schools and community and I am sure he will not be a stranger even after he has left his official position with the School Department. The impact he has had on all the schools in Yarmouth has been greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten any time soon.
