“Background checks work.” That’s the slogan on the “Yes on 3” signs that have flooded the Northgate area of Portland. As a hunter born and raised in West Falmouth, I absolutely agree. In fact, I just bought my first gun last week. This may be surprising to some, but when I purchased my gun, I had to have a background check. I do not agree with Question 3 because it’s poorly written, unenforceable, and is already in place. All firearm dealers are required to do a background check for all firearm purchases under federal law.

I support the background checks that we already have in place in our great state of Maine, but I can’t support having unnecessary background checks that create additional legal burdens for Maine’s gun market.
