CAPE ELIZABETH  ? Lee M. Hanson, 87, of Cape Elizabeth, died Oct. 7, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

She married William H. Hanson in the mid 1940s; the couple traveled to Europe several times following her husband’s military career in the Army. They moved back to the states permanently in 1958. She retired after many years in the retail business.

During her retirement Hanson enjoyed bowling, square dancing, cooking and spending time with family. She was a member of the Eagles and the German Club. She enjoyed wintering in Hawaii and Florida for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband, who died in 1983.

Hanson is survived by her children, Patricia Cole, Lee Ingalls, Reed W. Hanson, and Joyce Charrier; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kurt Bittmann; and three nephews.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hanson’s  memory to Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough, ME 04074.
