PORTLAND — LearningWorks will hold its third annual Lights On Afterschool rally beginning at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, at the Maine College of Art on Congress Street.

The event will feature speakers and student performances, including an all-girls chorus from the Boys & Girls Club, and Portland Youth Dance.

The goal is to highlight the importance of safe, engaging afterschool programming, where students can get homework help, enjoy an activity they might not otherwise have access to and develop a relationship of trust with an adult in the community.

Following the rally, attendees are invited to view a student art exhibit that features artwork created by participants in the Make.Art.Think. program, which is a collaboration between LearningWorks and MECA.

Student artwork from East End Community School and Ocean Avenue, Presumpscot, Reiche and Riverton elementary schools in Portland will be on display, along with art by elementary students in South Portland.
