PORTLAND — Street theatre, puppetry and trailers from flood movies will welcome the highest tide of the year just after midnight on Monday, July 14.

The “King Tide BYO Chair Party” will be held in East Bayside, at Cove Street and Marginal Way, where the astronomically high tide is expected to rise above 11 feet 6 inches at 12:36 a.m.

The event is sponsored by the University of Southern Maine, East Bayside Neighborhood Organization, the Resilience Hub, Zero Station, U-Haul and the King Tides Project.

“The tide rises at predictable times. It gives us a glimpse of what the future may look like regarding rising sea levels,” said Jan Piribeck, USM professor digital art and foundations.
