PORTLAND — Congress Street business and property owners seeking to spruce up with new awnings or signs are invited to apply for the final round of financial assistance from the city.
City spokeswoman Jessica Grondin said Aug. 11 there is about $23,000 available for Facade Program grants funded through a Community Development Block Grant. The grants must be matched equally by business or property owners before the grant is made, and are available for properties from Washington Avenue to Weymouth Street.
City Economic Development Director Greg Mitchell said the first two rounds of grants totaled $160,000 and leveraged more than $400,000 in private investment in the Congress Street Arts District.
The grant application deadline is 3 p.m. Sept. 25. Applications and more information can be found at the city website or by contacting Nelle Hanig in the City’s Economic Development Department at nrh@portlandmaine.gov or 756-8019.
