BATH — Laraine Holmes Cummings, 87, died March 20 at Mid Coast Hospital surrounded by her family.

A daughter of Francis W. and Thelma Holmes, she was born in Bath on Jan. 20, 1924, and attended Bath schools, graduating from Morse High School in 1943.

For more than 40 years, she worked as a nursery school teacher in Bath and was known as “Mother Goose” by generations of Bath children.
 
She enjoyed spending time at her summer camp at Merrymeeting Bay and gatherings with family and friends. Always impeccably dressed, she had a flair for decorating and a love of shopping.

She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Edward J. Cummings, three brothers, Bernard, Scott, and Richard Holmes, and her sister, Dorothy Whalen.

She is survived by three children, Jeffrey J. Cummings, Jennifer Guzikowski and her husband Richard, and Mary Grill and her husband Tony; three grandchildren, Aaron Guzikowski and his wife Alison, Adam Guzikowski and Haley Grill; one great-grandson, Foster Welles Guzikowski; her sister, Christie Snow and brothers, Howard and wife Barbara, Gerald, Stanley and his wife, Jean, William and his wife, Ida; sister-in-law, Connie Cummings; and many nieces and nephews.
 
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, at All Saints Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 144 Lincoln St., Bath.  

At the family’s request, there will be no visiting hours.
