SOUTH PORTLAND — L. Virginia (Hannaford) Wright, 92, died April 13 at South Portland Nursing Home.

Born in Portland, a daughter of William and Lillian (Smith) Hannaford, she grew up in South Portland and graduated from South Portland High School in 1937.

For many years she was employed by Owen Moore and Rines Bros. until retiring in 1982.

A longtime, active member of the South Portland Church of the Nazarene, she served on the church board for over 30 years, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and served as president of its missionary society for many years.

In 1987 she was presented with the Distinguished Service Award for her years of service to the church.

Her husband of 52 years, Merton E. Wright, predeceased her in 1992, as well as four brothers and one sister.

Surviving are two children, Merton C. Wright and his wife Janet of Glenburn, and Linda A. Oertel and her husband Fred of Scarborough; a brother, Charles Hannaford of Scarborough; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held last week at the South Portland Church of the Nazarene.

Arrangements are by the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
