PORTLAND — The Portland Kiwanis Club has donated $4,000 to support the city’s only outdoor swimming pool, at 165 Douglass St. in the Libbytown neighborhood.

A check for the donation was presented to Mayor Michael Brennan at a Nov. 19 meeting of the City Council.

The funds will support operation and maintenance of the 50-year-old Kiwanis Community Pool. The club raised the funds at its August “Lucky Duck” prize raffle, which featured 500 toy ducks floating in the pool.

Founded in 1917, the Portland Kiwanis Club is the local branch of volunteer service organization Kiwanis International and the oldest Kiwanis club in Maine.
