SOUTH PORTLAND — Kevin “Nipsey” Russell, 61, of South Portland, died Jan. 15.
Born August 12, 1951, in Chelsea, Mass., to William and Reta Scahill Russell, Russell grew up with his brothers William and Brian in South Portland and was a graduate of South Portland High School.
He was married to wife Joyce Lee Russell for just over 10 years, but their friendship spanned four decades.
Russell was a veteran of the U.S. Army and took great pride in having served his country. He worked for Deering Ice Cream Co. for more than a decade and was last employed by Shaw’s.
A huge Celtics fan, Russell also enjoyed travel. His friends and family remember him as a very loving soul.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; his stepson, Dustin Ryan Litchfield; two brothers, William E. Russell and his wife Mary, and Brian J. Russell; and two nieces.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated for Russell’s close friends and family Tuesday at Holy Cross Church, South Portland. He was buried Wednesday with military rites in Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
